Young and the Healthy

Today, November 16, 2006, New Delhi

The highlight of the Global youth Meet on Health was the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the inaugural day. It was the prime minister’s cavalcade the gave the event a jump-start.

“I am delighted that young people from across the world are discussing issues that will have an impact on the well-being of all of humanity.” Singh said.

The six-day, global meet on youth health, which is being held for the first time this year, is being hosted by HRIDAY-SHAN (Health Related Information Dissemination Amongst youth- Student Health Action Network).
 
More than 220 delegates, all between 14 to 19 years old, from 36 countries, including India, are participating in the event.

A wide spectrum of youth health topics will be discusses at the meet, which would include diet and nutrition, exercise, substance abuse, conflict resolution, and HIV prevention.
 

Dr. K. Srinath Reddy, HRIDAY-SHAN, executive director and professor of cardiology at the AIIMS said promoting healthy living awareness among the youth is of vital importance in today’s world. “A healthy environment at home, school and community are essential for a productive childhood,” Reddy said
